Date: March 3rd, 2020.
Time of Writing: 9:52 PM.
Weather: Drizzly. Incredibly warm earlier, worryingly so.
Mood: Purposefully absentminded.
Day Overview: Going to keep it short so that I can think about other things. Woke up way too late and dragged myself to class without showering. Incredibly uneventful class, it's another peer review block and I've already got feedback from one of my classmates that amounts to it is already perfect :)
which helps me literally not at all. I had some extra time in the afternoon because my Media intro class isn't meeting for another week. Film studies was fine, we had another really good movie this week which I'll talk more about below. Anime club, my team won trivia, and it was basically because of me, I provided clutch answers to a few tricky questions. Now I'm sitting in my dorm, just not doing anything.
On My Mind: My absentee ballot never came. I could put so many thinking emoji in this section, but instead I'm just going to say that tomorrow this section will either be very optimistic or the angriest it has ever been. Super Tuesday ballot results right now are incredibly shaky and not very representative of the state of things. If they're a certain way when I wake up tomorrow, I'll be incredibly upset, or if they're another way I'll be really happy. Who knows, at this point? I advise you to not freak out as well.
Works Consumed:
- Fungus II by Wasted Shirt: Obnoxious noise rock that borders on a shock release at times. Not my thing at all, I can see how other people might think it was good, to me it just sounded like aimless jamming half of the time. The drumming was consistently good, but unfortunately it was paired with some lackluster songs that I didn't really enjoy. 5/10.
- The Conversation directed by Francis Ford Coppola: This movie affected me very deeply and I can't explain why. I felt shook after I walked out of the theatre esque lecture hall that Film Studies takes place in, and I didn't snap out of it for a good fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes, walking around in a haze, just absolutely bewildered at what I had just seen. We're studying it for the sound design unit in class, and I have to say on that front it is quite possibly the best sounding movie I've ever heard. I thought Rear Window and Parasite were incredibly intense movies, but at least those had frequent moments of levity. This was just sheer dread, end to end, distilled and bottled. The twist ending caught me totally off guard, and the last shot is pretty fantastic. What keeps this from a 10 is the characters. The main character is very tormented, and I feel like he's well understood by the end of the film, but the rest of the cast feels underexplored and even underacted at times. It is with this in mind that I give this movie a 9/10.
Works In Progress:
- Several People Are Typing by Drew Linky: I'm on the November 2017 section. This is a published journal chronicling the daily activities of the Homestuck discord server by the current admin. He was a moderator when he started the journal. It's incredibly long, I'm very far behind, but I'm hyper-fixating on it at the moment. I need to be reading real books. Should probably get around to backing off from my Goodreads goal. It is wayyyy too high right now.
- Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu animated by Studio Deen: Episodes 10 and 11.
- Houseki no Kuni animated by studio Orange: Episode 6.
- Hinamatsuri animated by studio feel.: Episode 6.
Works Produced: It's okay that I take a day off after all that I did yesterday, I hope. I need some time to just... recover.
Other Thoughts: Thank you for reading my blog. I want to get away from my computer as quickly as possible, so I'm not going to go through the effort of linking the radio again, but this week on The Theme Machine is Cyberpunk night. Please tune in! More details in yesterday's post, and there will probably be even more tomorrow.
